Graphic Era deemed to be University Dehradun

Tomato Grand Challenge’ (TGC)-2023

Ideas’ submissions are invited under ‘Tomato Grand Challenge’ (TGC) launched by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The aim of this challenge is to develop the comprehensive and focused intervention in designing tomato value chain: Pre-production, Primary Processing, Post-Harvest, Storage and Valorisation of Tomato. Registration for the Grand Challenge is currently open.

The challenge is open to students (engineering, agriculture and allied fields, science or related domains), research scholar, faculty, teachers, professionals, start-ups, Indian companies, MSMEs.

Selected projects will be awarded a prize money and also funded for further development and implementation. More details are available at https://doca.gov.in/gtc/

Submission of ideas is invited from registered participants under one or more of four verticals mentioned below. Participants can submit ideas under more than one verticals.

Deadline for ideas’ submission is 15th September 2023.

All institutions/ universities/ colleges are requested to circulate the above information about ‘Tomato Grand Challenge’ to all the faculty members, incubators, incubated start-ups, students, research scholars, alumni, etc.

A notification from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution regarding Tomato Grand Challenge is enclosed.

Vertical 1: Developing and popularizing improved varieties with multiple disease resistance and high shelf-life cultivation technology or practices

  1. for fresh market segment suiting to rainy season, high temperature and moisture stress
  2. for processing segment and mechanization in production.

Vertical 2: Designing and Disseminating information system pertaining to crop planning, production practices, market intelligence, farmer/ trader/ customer interface, etc. (Remote Sensing, Artificial Intelligences, App based platforms etc.)

Vertical 3: Innovative post-harvest treatments, packaging and technologies for long term storage to minimize post- harvest losses during transportation and storage to avoid panic selling due to perishability

Vertical 4: Developing value added products and processes for product diversification including utilization of processing waste, and innovative technologies for value addition to avoid panic selling due to perishability.
